A Youth Initiative: Expanding Student Access to
Construction Conferences & Industry Professionals
Date: April 8, 2026
By: Jaiden Vitovsky
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This low-cost, high-leverage initiative gives students and recent graduates both virtual and in-person access to the construction industry’s conferences. By bridging generations and closing access gaps, the program will accelerate workforce readiness, expand public support for resilient and innovative construction practices, and drive meaningful progress in the industry.
OBJECTIVE
This initiative aims to actively integrate students into advancements in construction, building materials, and infrastructure by enabling students to participate in industry events and conferences. Through direct participation, students will serve as knowledge multipliers and generational bridges, delivering low-cost, high-impact contributions to the future of the construction industry.
BACKGROUND
While attending a conference in New York in 2025, I realized that many young people, especially from rural, low-income, or disadvantaged backgrounds, lack access to the resources and networks I had.
This experience, combined with my passion for construction, inspired me to take action. I saw how difficult it can be for these youth to enter the construction industry, which offers strong career opportunities, because they often do not know professionals in the field or the full range of paths available. After joining a trade class with the organization “Eyes on Me,” I experienced firsthand how even brief exposure to the trades can spark real interest and open doors. I’m now committed to improving access for my peers to the construction and building materials industries that are shaping our future. By doing so, we can help young people discover better job opportunities, avoid being limited to narrow career paths, and ensure our communities and country have the skilled talent needed for tomorrow.
PROPOSED DELIVERABLES & BENEFITS
1. Youth Inperson Access to Industry Conferences
Allocate a dedicated live quota (e.g., 10+ seats per major event) for students at leading construction, building materials, and infrastructure conferences hosted by industry associations, companies, or organizations (such as World of Concrete, International Builders’ Show, CONEXPO-CON/AGG, Greenbuild, or regional events).
A. Student Participation Will Include:
Pre-event briefing and a designated conference point of contact.
Structured engagement in Q&A and breakout sessions.
Access to post-event presentations and synthesis briefs.
All selected students will undergo basic background screening consistent with general admission protocols; younger participants (<18) will use virtual options or attend with a chaperone provided by the recommending organization.
B. Benefits to the Industry and Initiative:
Creates opportunities for students.
Gives conference sponsors the opportunity to have a direct impact on a youth initiative.
Give sponsors the access to youth voices in social media and promotion.
2. Youth Virtual Access to Industry Conferences
Provide virtual access for students at leading construction, building materials, and infrastructure conferences hosted by industry associations, companies, or organizations.
A. Student Participation Will Include:
A student portal to what is happening in the industry.
An opportunity to Q&A with some industry speakers.
Access to post-event presentations and synthesis briefs.
B. Benefits to the Industry and Initiative:
It reaches students who cannot travel (remote locations, school schedules, minors)
Builds broader public support for advanced construction practices and sustainable building materials while increasing early workforce competency.
The targeted youth beneficiaries are a younger generation who would not otherwise have professional development opportunities in these fields.
Students will be encouraged to amplify others through youth-relevant social media content.
Students can distill insights into peer-friendly summaries, becoming knowledge multipliers.
CURRENT SUCCESS & NEXT STEPS
To move from idea to impact quickly and responsibly:
Jan 2026. Hosting Idea Sessions. I had sessions with other students and with mentors about the desirability, scope, and probable success of this proposal. Their ideas were incorporated.
Jan/Feb 2026: Gained access to Rapid TCT conference and developed a staff partner to discuss future access. Discussions are ongoing.
April 2026: Sharing this proposal with “Eyes on Me.”
Q2-Q4 2026: Endorsements and Partners: I am seeking endorsements from companies and partnerships with conference hosts.
METRICS FOR SUCCESS
Student Volunteers:
Develop 10 other student volunteers as a coalition to make this initiative successful.
Conferences:
Confirm the support of at least 15 conferences by Q3.
Impressions:
Use social media to gain support and momentum for the initiative.
All participating students will be encouraged to post about each event and how it supports greater youth engagement in construction and building materials.
CONCLUSION
Thank you for your consideration. Working together, I believe we will see extraordinary excitement from students when given direct access to these plans. Teachers, counselors, school leaders, and especially parents, I expect, will be very supportive of these out-of-school opportunities. As a lasting legacy of this initiative, I aim to create a self-sustaining network of young people equipped to drive innovation in construction and building materials for decades to come.
